New Accredited Duchenne Center: Department of Pediatric, Semmelweis University

It is with pleasure that we announce new Accredited Duchenne Center for children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – Department of Paediatrics, Semmelweis University.

Assistant professor Lena Szabo, who is the head of department of pediatric neurology and also the leader of the multidisciplinary team, welcomed the accreditation process as very beneficial. „You reinforced what we were doing well, and we also gained new momentum to improve our practice further.“

The center cooperates with a patient organization Gyogyito Joszandek Alapitvany which provided a letter of support for ass. prof. Szabo’s team.

The ADC committee visiting this center was led by prof. Nathalie Goemans, Chair of the ADC Advisory Board, prof. Tracey Willis, care expert from Oswestry, UK, and dr. Agneta Golan, experienced patient expert.
The visiting committee was impressed by the efforts of the leader and her team to provide multidisciplinary care for patients with DMD and their families, and the eagerness to improve any gaps based on new insights or recommendations.

During the two-day visitation, two locations were visited – the Semmelweis hospital and the Rehabilitation Center (Észak-budai Szent Janos Centrumkorhaz Gyermekgyogyaszati Rehabilitacios osztaly).

The team welcomed the accreditation with reassurance that they will continue to strive to maintain the enthusiasm and desire for continuous improvement.
