Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, India, accredited under the Accredited Duchenne Centers (ADC) Program

The Neuromuscular center in Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Ludhiana, Punjab, India, has been accredited as the newest center under the Accredited Duchenne Centers (ADC) Program. With this recognition, it becomes the first center in India to receive this status. The center has been accredited for both pediatric and adult care.

The neuromuscular service at CMC Ludhiana is led by Professor in Neurology, Vineeth Jaison, who specializes in neuromuscular disorders. Under his leadership, the team shows great dedication to provide up-to-date care for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Reflecting on the accreditation, Dr. Vineeth Jaison expressed his gratitude: “Getting accredited by WDO will help us set standards for care in our context. Reaching the accreditation will certainly push Duchenne care forward in this region.”

During the ADC Program visitation, the evaluation committee—consisting of Prof. Imelda de Groot (Program Leader), Prof. Rosaline Quinlivan (ADC Advisory Board member) and Dr. Elizabeth Vroom (Chair of WDO and patient representative)—was impressed by the center’s holistic approach and dedication.

Prof. Imelda de Groot shared her reflections on the visit: “the team provides aids and equipment to their patients although these are not available in India via normal insurances and is very inventive in reaching this”

Families interviewed during the visit described the CMC team as much involved in their situation and are (very) satisfied.

A distinctive feature of the CMC Ludhiana center is its role in the region, by working on satellite centers and education.
